Matt Freese

Matt Freese is an American goalkeeper who became New York City FC's first-choice stopper after joining from Philadelphia Union in 2023. He was named the club's MVP for 2024 and earned his senior international debut in 2025.

Freese came through the Philadelphia Union academy and spent time at Harvard before returning to professional football. He was part of the Union's Supporters' Shield-winning squad in 2020 and served as backup before transferring to New York City FC in 2023, where he quickly became the club's starting goalkeeper.

Named NYCFC's MVP for 2024, he broke into the United States senior setup in 2025 and has since earned 15 caps. He was selected for the 2026 FIFA World Cup roster.
